Here's the problem, the stihl setting gage seems to set the air gap too tight, like 0 004" measured between the ignition module arms and the flywheel magnets using a feeler gage set It seems as though the center coil pick up on the ignition module has a wider air gap Now my question, what is the proper way to measure an ignition module air gap?

It's SOP to inspect gap new spark plugs to your desired gap before installing them They could have been dropped, thereby changing the gap, etc NEVER assume they are gapped correctly out of the box How does the manufacturer know what YOU are going to gap them at?

Building a 454 030 overbore and pre gapped rings are 25 26 thou gap That is a bit more than I would like Mild street build Naturally aspirated ok, or do I have to buy file fit that cost a fortune? Will this gap give too much blow-by?

The business cars gap is the quickest way of setting and will be fine As for the tape on that fly wheel I have never seen anything on any flywheel like that on any machine from large to small I have worked on If you bought the saw second hand maybe that was the previous owners way of setting the gap?

Things that determine resistance is the plug wire conductor (metal conducts better than carbon impregnated fiberglass strands), the spark gap, and the resistance in the plug (the R in the designation of an AC-delco plug denotes an internal air gap to prevent power from bleeding off too soon)

Closer gap and or faster speed = higher induced voltage Since the field can only build when the points are closed and drops when the points open, the timing of the ignition points is also critical

The gap now measures 023 The second measures 012 I imagine 023 is too much and I should replace the ring What do you all out there think? Also, do you think that 012 is too much, or could it be within tolerance? I would really appreciate hearing from you all that have a lot of experience with these things
